I was born and raised in the coastal city of Mombasa. I am married with a son aged 7 months old we live in mtwapa on your way to Kilifi town my husband works with an Ngo in Mombasa for orphans while am a business woman.I finished high school and am currently a poultry farmer. I rare both layers for eggs and broilers for meat. I started my business in order to increase my family's income and also for self employment. After selling my produce i use the money to re stock and also to pay up all my utilities and help. The profit i earn I chip in in order to make sure that my family has the necessary basic needs.Poultry farming is a good business especially when one gets orders for the eggs and meat. The hard part of the business is capital because establishing it one will require building a house, buying of the equipments to use in feeding and drinking of water, connection of electricity and finding help for feeding the chicks. After one has established themselves its much easier because one will only be buying stock and feeds for the layers and broilers.
Am a poultry farmer i rare layers and broilers for eggs and meat and sell them to hotels, schools and individuals.Customers prefer my business because my prices are reasonable and my products are properly packed hygienically.Risks that affect my business is mostly death of the chicks if an outbreak occurs or when prices of their feeds fluctuate.I normally spend around seventy thousand to hundred thousand for re stocking and buying of feeds and paying utilities. Layers normally cost me fifty thousand for the six months feeding while broilers thirty thousand for the six weeks until they are ready for selling.Layers profit ranges from eight thousand to ten thousand while broilers fifteen thousand after selling the whole lot.Poultry farming is profitable because people prefer chicken meat because its tender and soft and the eggs are nutritious.
When i get the loan i will buy feeds for the last stock i currently have so that i can get money to pay the loan and also to restock again. From there on i can then ask for a for the lenders to consider me for a bigger loan so that i can expand and add more stock because my poultry shed needs remodelling, more water buckets and i want to try and increase my stock by atleast 20% so that i can get more market.
