I am 33 years old. I grew up in Western Kenya in a family of five. My life was very difficult since my father passed away when we were very young. So we grew up without basics. My parents had constant struggle to afford school fees. I pursued school up to secondary level. Due to lack of fees I did not continue to college. I got married and now I have 6 children and I am the bread winner. My husband does not have any employment. My dream is to alleviate poverty in my family through dairy farming. I want to ensure my children go to school and lead a better life in future. I also dream to build a brick house for my family, currently my family lives in a mud house with iron sheets roofing.
I keep a dairy cow. I sell milk from this cow to be able to pay fees and buy basics for my family. I also do peasant farming growing maize and millet for our daily consumption. My agenda is to expand my daily business. I had two cows but was recently compelled to sell one to treat myself when I got sick. I now plan to purchase a young cow and grow it up. My loan will be paid by cash received from the current cow milk. My biggest challenge has been how to raise funds to grow this business. Every time I have cash I have to send it to pay for my children’s fees. If I can grow a second cow it will increase my family income. I have a vision of keeping on increasing the cows until I am able to meet the demand of milk in my neighborhood.I am also hoping to build us a brick house
I plan to purchase dairy cow. I want to increase the amount of milk so I can supply to the high demand in my neighborhood. This loan will impact my business because I am guaranteed high income from it. This will improve our standard of living. My kids will have enough milk for consumption and I will still sell some of the milk. My vision is to ensure that we also are able to grow this business to help me build a better housing with bricks. We get sick from dust from the mud house and I am longing to change that.
