I am Teresia Nzau from Karatina village in Nyeri County,Kenya. I am a coffee farmer who grows coffee in a large scale. I was born and brought up in Nyeri county, this is the land where i grew up at and had all my childhood life experiences in this same village. Life while we were young was the best century to live in.Everything was traditional and the technology had not advanced like we see today. While growing up we faced a lot of hardships in life, going to school was barefoot without any shoes and it was very hard when it rained heavily at night and you were supposed to go to school on the following morning on a barefoot.It was really hard.We had no otherwise but to just go to school and get education there.These hardships made me one day dream of being a great person in the future and help my parents at home and also to raise my children without any difficulties. I practiced coffee farming in large scale.
The background that i come from is a farming, down to earth background. My father was a coffee and tea farmer and he used to sell his coffee to the coffee board of Kenya. He was very serious in his coffee farming that any little profits he got from his farming practice he took it back and injected it in the coffee farming once again. I loved and adored his farming practice and how he managed his farm in a well organized way.I therefore followed his footsteps and planted coffee too.I did my coffee plantation on a large scale and i always supply my coffee to the coffee processing factories.I do produce coffee berries for sale as the main source of my income.I choose coffee farming because i loved the way my father managed his coffee plantation in a well organized way and had high yields. I wanted to also be a successful coffee grower or coffee farmer just like he was.I save the profits.
My coffee plantation needs a lot of modification that i really want to put in place but i am unable due to lack of enough funds to carry out these modification plans. These modification plans and improvement strategies that i have in mind are meant to grow my coffee plantation farming business to be good.When these changes are done then the coffee plantations will produce high yields which will be a boost to me in terms of profits because more yields results to more profits.There are some coffee pests and diseases that lowers the yields and quality of coffee berries thus making them hard to sell to customers and the coffee processing factories.I want to purchase coffee pesticides to spray on my coffee plantation to kill the disease causing pests thus it will reduce the cost of my production and increase my income. I will be able to earn good income.
