My name is Fatou Badji, a very energetic mother in her 40s and who wakes up early in the morning to seek out goods native to Casamance. I am a vendor of fruits and vegetables for several years now. I stopped my studies while in junior high. I live with my family in the suburbs. I am a vendor at the Parcelles Assainies Market. I make some orders from the large markets. I buy vegetables from the wholesalers and sometimes there are farmers in the fields who send me vegetables by truck and pick them up at the market. I don't get around (myself), but I send money two days before. I also order fruit which I give to my daughter so that she can resell them. Given my family situation, I make all of my children work to be able make savings and take responsibility for the expenses of the house. I want progress in work because I take it very seriously. I like dealing with and helping women (clients).
Currently a retail trader at a public market, I've worked with women's associations for sometime now. I have done a lot of training, but now I have opened my shop to sell fruits and vegetables at the market. I make orders in the region(s) and sometimes I send my fruit to Morocco, but the financing leaves its mark because the orders have multiplied. With the help of my husband and my children, work since is easier. Sales don't last enough to collect money (profit). I save from day to day and at the end of the month, I pay my expenses and save a little money. However, I have to have ready cash to keep ordering (goods) so that there isn't a shortage. I have some loyal customers and quality does not lack at my place.
