I was born in teso area. Am the only child in my family. I attended teso Primary School and later proceeded to Muslim High School in Kisumu where I studied upto form 4 (O-Level). I was born in a poor family. I was actually educated up to secondary school by a Good Samaritan who sympathized with the situation at my home. My parents were subsistence farmers. I'm married with 2 children and selling of solar lanterns is my sole business. I envision being the largest dealer of solar equipment in the whole of teso
I buy and sell solar lanterns. I started this business in 2013. I saw that much of my neighbouring area is not covered by the national electricity grid. People also had difficulties in accessing phone charging services. My biggest challenge has been accessing the solar equipment. Dealers for these equipment are from Nairobi, which is over 400 kilometres from my business operational area. I pay a lot for transportation; a cost that I load onto the cost of the product thus making them a bit exorbitant. My customers are mostly teachers and rural folk. I plan to be a one-stop solar dealer by stocking all available brands. I want also to create a distribution network around teso that experiences long and ample hours of sunshine in much of the year. Am proud of creating awareness and educating people on the benefits of solar energy
Together with my savings i will use the loan to buy 4 solar lanterns which will earn me Ksh.3,000 in profit after selling them. I will then plough back part of this money into the business. My business will get a new kick as with the profit I'm able to buy 6 more lanterns on top of the capital that I will already have.
