My name is Benard Njuguna. I have always wanted to be a farmer since I was a little boy in Mariira, Murang'a. I was not able to finish my education since I had to take up a job and support my family and fund my younger sibling's education. I hustled through taxi driving but my heart was always in farming. After working all my life to educate my children, I feel it is now time to live out my dream of dairy goat farming. I enjoy reading the Bible and African novels.
I currently farm kales and a few vegetables around my farm. I have one goat but I need to have more so that I can get enough milk to become a reliable supplier. Goat milk is useful and in demand because it is medicinal, it is used in soap making and yoghurt production. I chose goat farming because it has minimal labour while giving me and opportunity to nurture these beautiful creatures. I would need the money to buy the goats and the food for them and their maintenance such as salt and vaccines. I plan on using the profits to reinvest in the business and grow into mixed farming.
I plan to keep goats for milk production and supply it to my community for consumption needs. I also plan on supplying it to soap makers and other beauty product manufacturers to create soap and serums. When the business grows, I plan on making goat cheese and butter and other related products.
