My name is Suwarto, I live in Boyolali, Central Java, Indonesia. My job is collecting electronic waste (e-waste) such as TVs, LCDs, laptops, cell phones, refrigerators, etc. I also have a little knowledge about repairing electronic items such as televisions and notebooks. Did you know that electronic waste is very dangerous? What should we do with old electronic products that we no longer use? Computer monitors, televisions, and other electronic equipment should NOT be thrown away carelessly with your organic waste/materials. TVs, monitors, computers, and other consumer electronics still have economic value and can be sold or donated to extend their useful life. TVs and computer monitors that are no longer functioning must be recycled properly so as not to pollute the environment around us. I have worked for 7 (seven) years in the field of electronic waste management. In addition to increasing my family's economic income, my dream is to create a sensitive and environmentally friendly society regarding electronic waste management, especially increasing public understanding of electronic waste that cannot be recycled.
E-waste (electronic waste) is a highly complex waste stream, as it contains both rare and valuable components as well as highly toxic ones. Mobile phones, TVs, and laptops, for example, contain up to 1,000 different components, many of which contain toxic elements such as lead, cadmium, or brominated flame retardants. When burned, these elements emit toxic emissions. My green business is a key economic driver in the current global business scenario. Among various green initiatives, recycling (electronic) waste creates the highest positive impact on the environment. Of all types of waste, e-waste has the following characteristics: a) the fastest growing waste segment, b) the most valuable due to its basic composition, c) highly hazardous if not handled carefully. However, this sector (e-waste) is very new with only a few players in Boyolali. Most of the e-waste management sector is currently handled by the unorganized/informal sector. However, due to lack of skills, knowledge, awareness, etc., this sector remains highly labor-intensive, environmentally unfriendly, and unhealthy. Through proper and organized methods, this electronic waste recycling project can become a significant source of income. I started this green business in 2010. I currently need capital to purchase tools such as soldering irons, hammers, screwdrivers, and other electronic devices to sort electronic waste for recycling. The goal of this business project is to increase family income (children's education costs), including contributing to a more environmentally friendly environment through electronic waste management, which will benefit the environment and their health. This small project will also generate economic value for the scavengers who collaborate with me in collecting electronic goods/waste. They (the scavenger community) will also benefit economically from my green business.
I will use this loan to increase my capital. I will purchase a machine for recycling hardware. With this tool, my estimated weekly net income will increase, resulting in a net profit of 20-30% of my capital. I will use this shredding machine to recycle items that are no longer usable.
