Hello Zidisha members, my name is Kennedy Odhiambo Oduor, a very proud Kenyan born citizen. My native home is I'm western Kenya, a small town known as Busia. I grew up in a tough environment because my parents almost had no money. We lived a hand to mouth life and often times failed to attend school because of lack of fees. During these times my siblings and I were forced to do odd jobs to survive, such as selling groundnuts until late because we had a target that we needed to achieve to be able to secure survival for the next day. This is where my passion for business grew, because I longed to have my own income under my own authority since I watched my parents suffer and yet they were employed. The experiences also taught me to be street smart and business savvy without having to attend classes. At 16 years old I stopped school and started my own hardware business, but that didn't work out and eventually I settled in farming, which is what I do to this day and it sustains myself and my family. Something unique about my culture is our very popular bull fights.. I have a son and a daughter who look up to me. During my free time, I enjoy watching documentaries about different places in the world.
I am a wholesale supplier of vegetables and different kinds of groceries, fruits and flowers. I am both an agricultural and horticultural farmer. Aside from that I have a local kiosk for the members of my estate where I live. I chose this business because I enjoy farming and what I supply are basic necessities.
My typical costs per month are 45000 but my take home after removing expenses is about 90000kes because on average I make 150000kes every month. I would like funds to buy pesticides and fumicides for my plants and also add another irrigation scheme. I use my profits to provide for my family and I also have a small home for kid's who don't have parents.
I will buy insecticides and pesticides for my crops to keep pests from destroying them. This will help increase my harvest and consequently my profits will increase because I will sell more. My community will also benefit by not having a shortage of groceries to buy.
Blessed parlour
