my names are Joseph Maina born in Nakuru rift valley province,am a hard working man and also a christian,we are blessed with one kid,my father left me a small piece of land whereby am doing small scale farming,Kenya is a beautiful green country and a tourist attraction centre,my kid wants to be a farmer just like his dad,I like travelling and spending most of the time in the internate.

i sell water melons around nairobi, the goods that i sell are in demand simply because am located in nairobi town whereby buiness is developing first, Water melons are delicious red fleshed refreshing fruits commonly eaten as

desserts. The rain fed crop is normally harvested in August/September. Best

months for planting commercial crop is July/August to harvest in October for

best price.Market is likely to be good from October @ 25 - 30sh per kg farm gate

price. One acre can yield 10 tonnes x ksk25 = Ksh250,000ksh in about 3 months

time. Cost of production is about 20 percent of the gross income.Nutritionally the

fruit contains vitamin A, thiamine, riboflavin, nicotinamide and ascorbic acid. Major market for watermelons in Kenya is easily available in Nairobi’s City Market,

Agakhan Market, Githurai Market, Kangemi and Kongowea Market that is in

Mombasa. Alternatively, you can look for market in hotels and supermarkets in

your locality. “There are middle-men who normally come to the farms seeking to

buy your produce even before it matures,so having all that I usually get like 200,000ksh every month as my typical cost every month.my child wants to be farmer when he grows up,I choose this kind of business because my dad left me a small piece of land in baringo so I decided to try water melon farming which is working perfectly well

At this time of the season melons are really in demand due to the hot sun in kenya, but am left with no money to protect my melon plants from the hot sun.But with a zidisha loan i could build a green house in my farm whic would protect my plants which are doing great in my farm.Given 130USD i woukld buy a polythene paper for my green house100metres worth100USD,then i would transport my paper to my farm and buy posts worth20USD and use the rest 10USD to employ a techichian who would construct me thge green house. With the green house i would be waioting harvest of my melons where am expecting a 78% increase of my profit with the green house.i will use the money to pay my sons schoolfess and also increase my farm and pay my zidisha loan back.
