My name is Constant Wawire, from Busia mundika village, Matayos sub county, Busia county western Kenya. I am the fourth born in a family of five and was raised with my mom alone, after my father passed on while I was 3yrs old. I schooled at the st Kelvin primary school and later joined Kaplong secondary school in 2009, unfortunately I was forced out of school at my third year (2011) when my sponsor passed on.
For the next two years life was unbearable until when I got a loan from our local youth group in 2013 (last year) to start a small cereal selling business. I choose the business because I needed money urgently to support myself, and this was the only business that could bring me income immediately .it was not easy at first since I dint have established clientele base and adequate entrepreneurship skills to manage the business . The demand for my maize was low and I almost quit the business, but I always remembered that quitters never win and winners never quit, so I held on. My business grew slowly and now I have lots of customers who always come for my commodities. From my income I have been able to support my family ,at least we can now afford three meals a day unlike before , I have also been able to service my bank loan ,though I am afraid of taking another bank loan because they have very high interest rate up to 25% p.a.
My hobbies include riding, singing and dancing. I also have passion for kids and so I play a lot with kids. I visit children homes occasional so that the vulnerable children too can feel loved and not abandoned.
It’s my pleasure and really thanks the zidisha team for coming up with this bright idea that will impact on thousands of lives worldwide positively and really help in bailing out the less advantaged from extreme poverty. To my fellow borrowers I wish you be honest and service your loans on time so that other people could also benefit in future. Thank you
My name is Consilator Atieno Wabwire,I come from Busia ,Mundika which lies in the border of Kenya and Uganda, in western Kenya .I am a small cereal trader and I mainly deal with maize and millet .Ugali (prepared from flour) being the staple food in this sides of country makes my business a lucrative business, since the demand for maize and millet is high
I always buy cereals in wholesale and retail the same at a profit and that is my business. I buy white maize from Uganda and sell them across the border in small busia Kenya cereal market always ensure I buy the best maize i.e. very clean, white, and with less moisture content. This has made my clients identify with me and so I have been able to sustain my clients. I got a larger client base as per now
One of the hurdles in the business is that prices fluctuate a lot and at times you can buy in the morning at $0.25 a kg sell it Say at $0.28 but by the time you go back to get more for your business prices have gone up and so its like you have done zero work. Another problem is uncertain weather conditions which can change any time, since I sale my products in open air, the rains can start suddenly and rain on maize causing losses.
I earn quite good profit from my business and in a typical month I spend up to $380 buying commodities for resale my monthly revenue is estimated at $600 a month and my profits average is $150 a month. Though this figures always vary with the season and month of the year.
I am looking forward to expanding my business so that I can be able to always supply and deliver to my clients at the right time. I am also looking forward to start buying in bulk more so during the harvest season so that I am able to sale when demand is higher.
Given the loan I will service it using my income from the business my business, I will always ensure I pay or service may loans on time so that other people can also benefit in future. I am looking forward to positive and mutual interactions with every stakeholder in zidisha. Thank you
My name Is Wabwire Constant,I am a small scale cereal trader in Busia town western Kenya. ,One of the major problems facing me have always been the weather which is always uncertain and has caused me losses on various occasions, since I sale my cereals in open air. I am seeking the $150 loan to help buy iron sheets and put up a temporary structure where I will be selling my commodities from. I will use $50 dollars to buy iron sheets,$40 to buy timber,$10 for nails ,the $40 for labor and the $10 will be for nails. I hope I will be able to raise funds and put the structure in place before the short rains of October. This structure would greatly improve my working environment and help me ,from getting losses related to adverse weather conditions
Thanks in advance
