My Story

I come from Western Kenya, a place called Musoli, but currently I live and work in Eldoret Town. I have been in this Town for the last ten (10) years. I am a married woman to one husband, both of us aged 33 years, with two children (a boy aged 6 years and a girl aged 4 years). I have an O-level Education background and I also possess a secretarial Certificate.

I have been in employment as a secretary for over eight (8) years in two different companies. During this period, I experienced numerous problems, both financially and socially. Lower salary payment prompted me to think of starting a small business, but still this has its own economic and social challenges.

About My Business

Besides employment, I have been selling Primary Education Exams (Continuous Assessment Test Papers) and Multi-Purpose Liquid soap. Eldoret being an Education Centre and having a high population gives me a very effective demand.

I chose this business due to the many primary schools available in Eldoret. Most have permanent floors, which need to be cleaned with multi-purpose liquid soap: with its great availability and demand, you can not miss making a sale.

Competition is minimal and the existing competitors I have an advantage over them. I buy the exam papers at a lower price and sell to head teachers, parents, and anybody who is in need of them. For the soap, I buy industrial chemicals, which I mix and get multi-purpose liquid soap to sell also to anybody in need at a very friendly price, which keeps on attracting more and more customers. My business does not face any risks because it enlightens pupils and maintains hygiene to our county and everywhere.

My monthly cost of running the business is US$27, while the average gross profit before the expenses is US$53. The following is how I normally use profits from the business:

10% I give tithe to the church

70% Upkeep i.e. food and clothing

5 % Savings

15 % I support my aged mother and five siblings

Dear lenders I thank you for the first loan that you enabled me to have .I would like to propose that if my loan is fully funded, I will use the whole 100 US Dollars to buy the industrial chemicals I use in making the liquid soap product with the whole amount.

This will increase my profit margin by at least 25%, and my customers will now have a supply that is limited.

This will enable me to service the loan comfortably.
