Hello there!
My name is Leah Wagura, I am from Kenya and a Nutritionist by profession with a passion for community development. Growing up and throughout my life, I have always wished to make a difference in the community and I have been able to achieve this dream through my career and my business despite several challenges.
I run a business that not only is a revenue source but a benefit to my community. Through my work, I realized that malnutrition is a major public health concern where I live, and most of these cases are traced back to inadequate protein intake. Usually, the affected people and families are low-income earners and according to them, many proteins are pricey and can be easily termed a luxury.
This really disheartened me and I took it upon myself to make a change by providing highly nutritious affordable protein sources.
Through my effort and the help of my support system, I run a farm consisting of chickens, pigs, and goats.
I provide eggs, goat milk, chicken meat, mutton, and pork to my community at a price considerably lower than the market price. I am able to do this because along with commercial feeds, I use plant products from the farm to complement the feeds thus my production cost is low.
My pricing targets vulnerable individuals and I make sure to enrich the animal feeds so that my products are highly nutritious. This way my products sell a lot and the buyers get value for money as well as improved health.
I currently supply individuals for consumption, retailers, and even a local hospital. I am looking to expand my business to cater my community and even beyond.
I will buy more chicks along with their feeds and raise them till they are grown enough to produce eggs. This way I will have enough eggs to meet the community demand in my mission to help reduce the protein deficiency malnutrition in my community.
At the same time, it will increase my revenue in a way that I will be able to supply beyond my community.
