I am named Amissah Richard Duodu. I come from Berekum in the Brong Ahafo region of Ghana. I had my Basic Education at the Berekum Demonstration Junior High School and further at the Berekum Senior High School.

I persued a Diploma in Education at the Cape Coast University by distance after a successful completion of a Teacher’s Certificate ‘n’ at the Berekum College of Education. I am currently pursuing a degree in English Education at the Valley View University. I am in a family of five and the first born of my parents.

I teach at BESS Junior High School and own a private school along side. My hobbies are reading novels, studying and watching football matches.

I started my private school with name LIFE CARE PREPARATORY SCHOOL in the year 2007 at my own compound. I started my school upon my posting to the community as a teacher. New Biadan is a farming community and education seems to have been given little attention. The only school in the vicinity was about eight kilometers from my village. Most of the pupils stuck to their parents to the farm. I thought of how to bring these poor children to the light of “education”.

I found out that there were about three other villages around which had a similar problem. I noticed that my village was located geographically at the center of these villages and therefore took the advantage to establish the school in my compound. I started the school with ten students but the number grew to twenty-four at the end of that academic year.

Currently, I have 204 students that is from the kg to primary 5. I have been able to employ ten teachers and two non – teaching staff. My school is highly patronized mostly due to my terms of paying of school fees which is by installment. Parents are allowed to pay their wards fees on installment which is spread across each academic term.

I have also included weekend school which allows parents to bring in their wards to be able to attend social functions during the weekend.

Although my school is fast growing there are many challenges which needs to be met. Most of my classrooms are in temporal wooden structures. The school has to be closed whenever it rains.

I wish to apply to Zidisha to come to my aid to help improve the structure to be able to retain the children is school. I will need about $2000.00 to undertake this project.

REPAYMENT

Should I be given this loan facility, I will be able to repay under any terms and conditions given. The school is highly patronized and parents pay their wards fees regularly.

I will be able to repay the loan from the income I generate from the payment of fees.

Through Zidisha,am able to but up a three unit classroom which is at the roofing stage. This has not only motivated my staff but my pupils and the community at large. There is a living hope that the school has come to stay.

With this new loan am applying,I hope to put it to a good use buy buying roofing sheets ,nails and wood so that the classrooms can be roofed.A total cost of about 2000 dollars is estimated to embark on this mission. The community is prepared to offer volunteer service to support the roofing by carrying of the wood to the school and providing food from their farms for the workers during the roofing work.

This project will entreat other students who are not regular at school to come to school at all times.I expect that this will increase the income generated from the school.
