I am 3rd born child in a family of 6, the first son. I was born and brought up in nairobi where i went to school and eventually got employed. I went to a public primary school and gratuated and eventually joind highschool. After highschool my father was not able to cater for my college fees so i got a job at a christian organization where i was able to raise some little cash to pay my fees. I later left the organization and joined another NGO where i worked and had to sucrifice my education to cater for my yonger siblings education. I have 8 years working experience though i was not happy with it so i decided to start my own business of taxi and car hire. I have been in this for the last 2 years but with each year we face chalanges. Dwindling customer base and harasment from county authorities are just some of those chalanges.
What is unique about mombasa is that its people are welcoming and friendly. The whether is also favorable especially between April and October.
Starting a taxi and carhire business was not easy at first because before you find a place to station yourself you must atleast know someone who can help you join in especially because people will see you as competition and not everyone will appreciate you especially if you have
A new car or better customer service than them. It took me about 2 months to finaly fit in and by Gods grace it kicked off.
Its has been tough especially now that uber and the likes are in the market. Because of that i have decided to diversify and venture into clean drinking water supply. This has come about after i realised people are being exploited in terms of howmuch they pay for the product and since i know what the production cost is, i would like to get in and provide the same product at a much cheaper price but at the same time do door to door delivery where possible.
I eventually intend to grow it to the point that i will be processing and filterin and packaging the product myself and delivering hence a further drop in the cost to consumer. The initial cost o starting is 1400 which i will use to purchase 20 10 litre jeicans at a cost of 70 shillings per jerican. This i will retail at 100 shillings as opposed to 150 that is being charged by other vendors.
I will use the loan to purchase some stock about 8 jericans at 5.5 usd. The benefits to me is that i will still be able to make some profit and consumers will have a cheaper option.
I expect to make atleast 0.297 usd per jerican. 30 shilling.
