My name is Martine Ouattara and I am a young married woman with three small children, two daughters and a son. I was born November 6, 1985, in Bobo-Dioulasso in the province of Houet. My daughter, the oldest, goes to the primary school in Iafiabougou where she is in grade one. I came to Bobo-Dioulasso when I was twelve years old, and I lived with my aunt until I married my husband. My parents are polygamous, since my father has several wives and my mother is the second wife. My mother had four children with my father and I am the youngest. My family comes from eastern Logofourousso, which is just outside the city of Bobo on the way to Oradara, and my parents still live there.

I work in the field of hairdressing for girls and women. I make braids, hairdos with ribbons, weaves, and many other hairstyles. Besides this business, I bind documents and Bibles, and fix torn books. I do hair weaves at affordable prices for people in the city at 1,000 francs, and a simple set of braids for 200, 500, or 1,000 francs. A hairdo with highlights using a small package of dye costs 1,000 francs, and one using a large package of dye 1,500. I also make informational booklets about health and pregnancy, and bind Bibles for 1,500-2,000 francs each.
