My name is Collins Twumas. I come from Dormaa Ahenkro in the Brong-Ahafo region of Ghana. I attended Methodist primary and secondary school.I had the desire to study hard to the tertiary level and to become a medical doctor but I could not do that because my family were poor. They were only peasant farmers. Even my primary education up to secondary school was a big blow. Sometime in school I had to stop schooling and sell dog chain around town to be able to pay my school fees. I decided not to go into that stress anymore so I thought of doing my own business and I happened to obtain a shop from a friend who was travelling outside Ghana. Initially I was selling provision like milk,sugar, rice, cooking oils and many others but the profit was too small so entered into selling paint of different colour. Dormaa Ahenkro is a municipality and has many surrounding villages and towns who are government employees and poultry farming is the major occupation for most of the youth. Now I am married with three children and two of them said they want to become medical doctors whilst the third one is poised to becoming an engineer. I lie playing guitar so I play for a band in Town called "The Rocks "and that is what I do as pasttime
I sell paints of varying colours people come to buy to paint their buildings and many others buy to paint their cars.. Dormaa Ahenkro is a municipality and has many people in and around town who engage themselves in various activities like building, poutry businesses and some of the youth go into driving commercial cars as a source of income. Day in day out there is the demand for paints for new and old buildings and many buy these paints to paint home gadgets like gas cylinders and many more. I went into selling paints because I considered that to fetch me more profits to enable me to take care of myself and my family as well. I entered into this business with amount of 300Gh and progressively my capital is now arround 1000Gh. I make sales of about 200gh a day and sometimes 350ghc. I pay my children's school fees,buy food, pay electricity bill and water bill and the remaining profit is reinvested into my business for it to grow.
I want to buy red paints at $35,blue paints at $40, black paints at $30, ash paints at $36. I should be able to increase my stock and to see some increase in profits from the sale of these products added to the existing stock and this I think will enable me to care for my family properly.I hope to increase my profits to about 95% if I should add these items to one's I have already.
