My name is Soda Ndiaye. I am Senegalese, 25 and live in Dakar. I am a self-employed retailer at Point E (a district in Dakar). I sell cosmetic products and artistic clothes. Specifically, I sell Batik shirts and dresses (Batik is a traditional dieing method used in Senegal). I work with Batik artists from the Casamance (a southern region in Senegal). I also sell soaps. In partnership with women who makes soaps, I sell soaps with carrot, carite (a sweet smelling sap from a local tree) and honey fragrances. With the goal of helping my family, especially my mother, I hope to develop my business, especially in regards to selling my art, which will be quite profitable this summer during the tourist season and will allow me to open my own boutique one day.

Though selling art and cosmetic products in Senegal is quite profitable, my means of doing so is quite limited. I occasionally make loans to raise money for my merchandise.. I lend out my goods to bureaucrats, and take them back at the end of the month, unless they want to buy it. With the aim of helping my family, especially my mother, I hope to develop my business by selling Art, which during this period, sell very well, but because of a lack of means, I am using Zidisha to solicit a loan of 450 000 CFA to buy art merchandises. With this loan I could buy artistic dresses, table cloths, shoes and leather bags.

I hope to use this loan develop my business, especially towards Art sales, which sell incredibly well during the summer tourist season. However, because of a lack of resources, I am soliciting a loan of 450 000 F CFA from Zidisha to supply my products. With this loan I will procure artistic dresses, tablecloths, shoes and leather purses.
