My name is Felister Muthoni, a born again christian and a certificate holder in catering services. Soon after my college, I got pregnant only to find myself a young, jobless single mother. The challenges of raising my young boy have never been easy and have move from one casual to the other. Luckily, I managed to save enough money to start a cake business which I run from. While I had problems landing my first customers the growth has been steady and I can now pay for my basic needs and that of my kid a lot easier than when I was doing casual jobs.

I'm now taking part time classes to get more knowledge on my area of expertise with plans to open a bakery God willingly before the end of this year. I want to know the ins and outs of the industry to help me manage a bigger business.

I'm of Anglican faith and love to read the Bible and listen to music during my free time

I run a small scale cake business from my house. On a good month I make around Ksh 20,000 or an equivalent of $200. I have a steady stream of customers and hardly go a week without getting an order. I have created an edge for my business by doing home deliveries. That way I am able to give a personalized customer service some of my competitors may not be able to offer. Also I try to network with as many people as I can with the hope to grow my customer base. Most of my customers have been through referrals. Here is how I spend my earnings.

Profit - $200

House rent - $50

Household expenses - $50

Savings - $ 30 to $40.

I reinvest back the saving to my business every 4 months as I look forward to open my fully fledged bakery by the end of this year. Now that I have Zidisha, my goals can only be achieved much faster.

Dear Lenders,

As stated in my profile, I run a cake business from home. However, I have plans to open a bakery in the course of the year as I target a larger customer base. Running a bigger business than the one I own currently will come with its challenges and I will better off if I'm well acquainted with the market dynamics.

It is for this reason that I enrolled for a diploma in food and beverages to equip myself with the knowledge that will come in handy when I roll out bakery. Armed with the right information will help me run the bakery better and make decisions from a point of information.

With the profits from my current business, I will repay the loan comfortably and hopefully come back for more funds to start the bakery.

Thanks in Advance and God Bless

Felister
