I am a Kenya from the Kalenjin community and trained accountant. In the year 2000 my life changed when I faced a serious chronic health challenge . It has been a difficult period but it has taught me resilience, discipline, and the value of self reliance.
With limited opportunities for formal employment I chose farming as a way to support my family as I managed to get a piece of land through family inheritance. I have raised seven children to adulthood on this farm. The farm is in an area where land and community are central to life, and tea, and dairy farming is the central source of income.
The loan will allow me to expend my dairy project, increase my milk production, and generate a stable income. I am committed to repaying the loan faithfully and continuing to build a secure future for my family.
I operate a small tea and dairy farm on my farm In Kericho County. The business focuses in producing and selling fresh cow milk to nearby milk cooling plants. Currently I have non high yield cows, and a tea plantation which is yet to fully mature. Milk is a more viable project with reliable daily income due to availability of dairy processors locally.
I chose dairy farming because fits well with my land size, and I already have basic farm infrastructure including a water well. With proper investment milk production can increase significantly and sustainably.
My main costs include animal feeds and supplements, veterinary care, labor, and maintenance of equipment. Revenue comes from daily milk sales. With improved dairy cows I expect consistent monthly income that will comfortably cover operational costs, and loan repayment.
I have land suitable for both dairy and tea but is currently under utilized due to my limited financial capacity to fully maximize on usage. I intend to use part of the property for zero grazing in order to enhance productivity and to generate sustainable income for my family.
At the property I currently have:-
i. One cross bred dairy cow
ii. A functional water well
iii .Approximately 9,000 plant of premature tea plants
By increasing milk production through zero grazing, I will earn reliable daily income that will allow me to meet house hold needs and pay my loans on time.
The primary objective is to establish a modern zero grazing unit to increase milk production thus increasing my income. With proper funding I will use the funds on the following:-
1 Purchase of high yield pedigree cows.
2 Construction of modern cow shed and forage storage facility
3.Installation of water storage tanks and related plumbing
4. Fencing and paddocking
5 Planting of fodder and feed crops
Subject to availability of funding I will implement the project in three phases.
A .Phase 1-Farm Fencing and Feeds
i. Fencing and Paddocking
ii Planting of quality fodder feeds
This initial funding shall be invested on the above phase which will provide better feed, and enhance production on the current stock.
B. Phase 2-Construction of zero grazing unit
i. Cubicles and resting areas
ii. Feeding and water throughs
iii. Fodder storage are
iv. Silage pit
v. Holding crush
vi. Water storage
C. Phase 3-Equipment and Livestock
i. Purchase of chuff cutter
ii. Purchase of pedigree cows
The project is financial viable due to existing infrastructure, reliable milk market, adequate land, and water resources. The proposed investment will significantly increase milk production, farm income, and ensure ability to service and repay the requested funding.
