My name is Alpha Cissé and I am currently 52 years old. I studied Economic and Social Administration in France and then I came back to Sénégal. The return was very difficult and I, for several years, had virtually no work. In the end, I created a collection agency to help mutual-funds businesses in the recovery of their unpaid debts. Over time, I did several microfinance courses and I became a loan officer and now am a manager for a mutual-funds business. Issa Ngom, my wife, is in her thirties. She did not attend higher education, but she is an excellent cook. She does all of the housework and, with her agreement, we decided to start a small business to try to increase the income of our household as our children begin to grow.

I am currently managing a small mutual-funds business, and my wife has a small business that sells sandwiches and Touba coffee for breakfast. The sandwiches are served with sauces with either sardines or peas. It is a business that is doing well and we want to expand it by selling natural juices such as ginger, tamarind, and sorrel. Our ambition is to create a restaurant, later, with the support of Zidisha. Every day, we spend about 1.000 FCFA and we make a turnover of approximately 2.000 FCFA, sometimes more, sometimes less. The profits are generally 1.000 FCFA. During the rainy season, business works less well, but during the school year, it's better.

In my work, I earn around 100.000 FCFA (around $170-USD) per month. We have two girls and two boys who are in school, except the little one who is a year and a half. Family responsibilities require us to find ways to increase the income of the family.

With this loan, we intend on restarting the "Petit Resto" business that was suspended due to my wife's pregnancy. We intend to buy small catering equipment, such as knives, spoons, a coffee-maker, etc. Then, we will make purchases of foodstuffs.

I pledge myself, Alpha Cissé, Volunteer Mentor, to repay every last cent owed to Zidisha. Our ability (my wife's and mine) to repay is 10.000 FCFA per month; however, we find that your table does not accurately display this sum. Our commitment is not 9.950 CFCA, but 10.000 FCFA (ten-thousand FCFA, maximum, per month).
