I am the second born in a family of six boys and three girls.I attended primary school in Kisii and grew up there until class 5 when our family moved to a resettlement scheme in Kitale then to Isiolo. My father inherited no land so we relied on government to allocate us land, which in Kenya is known as the resettlement scheme. It was not easy growing up in one place only to have to move to another constantly but even within the scheme we met all sorts of people and conditions. One time we were moved to an area that is used to build sewage points for the whole resettlement scheme and we had to endure the smells of the large sewage ponds that covered almost 6 acres. We regularly contracted skin and lung diseases which would always get misdiagnosed until we lost our two lastborn members of the family, then my father resolved that we leave the scheme and live in rental units rather than on government awarded land that would cost us our lives. So we moved to Isiolo town and have lived here ever since. My father passed away after he had run a successful mini restaurant in the dusty town of Isiolo, and i took over from him and i'm now planning on doing deliveries within the town.
I run a small tin shack restaurant which serves the locals of Isiolo town.We serve mostly soldiers and anti stock theft unit personnel since it is in an area prone to bandit attacks and cattle thieves from neighboring tribes and from the neighboring country. My food is affordable and averages around half a dollar per plate to a dollar for fish which is hard to find.I make an average of 100$ per month in profit and pay 5$ per month in rent.I work with my brothers and sisters so we dont pay salary but we usually agree to split profits evey two months.I love this job and i hope to expand this business and leave it to my younger siblings.I am married and have 3 children, all girls.
I will buy tomatoes, cabbages, beef and goat meat to stock my kitchen, the profit i am sure to get will be at least more than a quarter increase and it will enable me to offer more foods that are not found in Mandera and that are asked for such as avocado meals. It will also help me and the family save more so that we can buy our own plot and lease it out.
