The same phenomenon is seen in weekly fairs organized by citizens of small towns in the country. Old clothes, popular with buyers, sell like hotcakes (i.e., sell quickly). Their prices, highly variable, are within the reach of every budget. The market is full of clothes for everyone: men and women, children and adults. Customers are very happy to dress themselves up with a shirt bought for only 500 CFA francs (about $1 US). My clients are mostly housewives. They find low-priced clothing for their children and are very happy to make a good deal. In the main city markets, mothers and even fathers of families often set off in search of clothes for their children. They flock to my little thrift shop looking for such deals.
