I was born on 23rd July 1977 in Ndhiwa, Homa Bay County. I went to Waa Primary School then to Orero Secondary School for my O level.
After School, I joined teaching as an untrained teacher. I taught in several schools including Little Roots Academy-Ukunda, Word of Life Christian Academy- Ukunda ,St Kevin Hill School, Voi and St Jude Educational Centre, Voi.
Having been orphaned at a tender age, I had to work hard to take care of my two siblings. I quit the teaching job to join Amedo Centres Kenya Limited,Voi Branch as a sales agent.
It is during this time that I realised fish was a rare commodity in Taita Taveta. I carried out a research on how and where to get the product to the consumers. Using my salary, I bought a freezer and an electronic weigh machine. I had resolved to deal in frozen fish.I've overcome hardship through persistence and hard work. My greatest achievement is being my own boss.
Taita Taveta is a land endowed with natural resources like wildlife and minerals. Tourism is a booming business thus hdotels have cropped up to offer hospitality.
I want to leave a business legacy to my children. I want them to venture into business when they become of age.
During my free time, I read novels and other books. I sometimes spend my free time drawing.
I run a grocery. Apex Groceries is located at Kaloleni in Voi. We sell frozen fish ,crustaceans, fruits and vegetables. I supply these goods to the local hotels and fish mongers.
I chose to do this business after conducting a careful research on business opportunity in the region. Fish was in short supply, so I decided to bridge the gap.
I buy a kilogram of frozen mackerel at sh.130 and sell it for sh.160(wholesale) and sh.250(retail).I purchase a kilogram of frozen tilapia at sh.200 and sell it at sh.250(wholesale) and sh.400(retail).
I get between 30 to 50 shillings for every kilogram sold at wholesale, and between 100 and 150 shillings for every kilogram sold on retail. I currently supply an average of 60kg per day.
I use the profit to expand my client base, thus growing the business.
I'll buy 5 kilograms of passion fruits @1$; 5kg of mangoes @ 0.5$. I expect a 20% profit after sale of each batch. Since this is done daily, by the end of loan repayment period I'll have doubled my stock on fruits. I'll make about 3 $ a day, which I'll reinvest the next day. By the end of the month I'll have made more than 100$. This will represent 100% of the amount invested. This means that I'll be able to pay the instalments and Still expand my business.
