I grew up in Homa Bay and attended Homa Bay primary school where i led my class all the way to class 8.I passed my primary examinations but my parents passed away in a road accident, forcing me to take up fishing in Lake Victoria,to make ends meet.I paid my own fees through high school and paid for my younger brother and sister too.I worked day and night on borrowed fishing boats catching small fish and selling them in the morning until i passed my high school exams and even paid for a marine course.I got a good job in the Kenya Navy but was incapacitated after i got into a diving accident and almost lost my limbs. The navy did not compensate me and i retired home to attend to fishing and selling the fish to buyers from upcountry.I also started rearing goats and have plenty of them.I still support our youngest sister who is in college and hope to one day fully use my legs again.
I fish in Lake Victoria and also rear livestock such as goats and hens and i'm hoping to increase my goat stock with the help of Zidisha loans.I usually sell the goats to other upcoming farmers and to butchers from the capital who give me at least 30$ per goat.
the proceeds help me pay for my sisters college fees and my own upkeep and medical attention which i am still undergoing.
I will buy 5 goats at 3$ each and resell them at 7$ each to upcountry buyers that visit our shores.I will also replenish my fish stock by mending my net with the profit apart from buying more goats and reselling. With this increase in profit i hope to also save and buy my own boat instead of hiring the usual leaking ones.
