Hello, my name is Pauline from Kenya. A mother of 3 children who live in Kanamai, Kilifi County.

Having lived in the city previously, farming life proved to be a challenge with the going back and forth, from Mombasa to Kilifi to oversee or collect farm vegetables and fruits ready for sale

At the onset of the COVID19 pandemic and having lost my mother, who was in my care to Sarcoma just before the pandemic, I decided to permanently move to the rural kanamai, Kilifi.

My business is farming, both in cash crops and poultry rearing.

I have planted amaranthus, giant nightshade, jalapenos, okra, brinjals, pawpaws, and long sweet plantains.

Also, have a chicken shed where I rear the rainbow chicken, that I sell eggs and meat.

I also do online freelance work from various sites like appen.com, trans perfect, transcription and article writing.

With a little profit from our poultry farming startup, I engaged my immediate neigbour who has a larger land to lease me a quarter acre for the purposes of dividing the section into two parts.

One part for farming pigweed (green amaranth) and the second part for okra.

The funds will go to purchase of 2500 amaranth seedlings and okra seeds.

Adding 2 women to help with tilling and land preparation.

We will also need to set up a rain hose irrigation system for the quarter acre piece of land that will cost around Kshs 30,000 to ensure our pigweed (amaranth) are well watered and reduce high costs of electricity if we were to use manual pipe.

The local women have increased in numbers and my supply is unable to sustain the local clientele with the half acre I own an farm in, where I have other crops like brinjals, tomatoes, spinach and habaneros.

With this new lease of land I intend to increase sales, maintain my clientele both on the local community and urban areas, and still have enough okra for my agribusiness.
