My name is Mary Nekesa Mayama, I am a very active active and hardworking 62 year old from the Western part of Kenya. I am part of a tribe known as the Luhya and we are known for our staple food which is ugali and chicken. We are also known for small scale farming, which is exactly what I do. I grow crops for sale and my husband rears cattle. I enjoy knitting during my free time and going on long walks especially with my children.
I grow crops like onions and tomatoes, pumpkins, kale, spinach and carrots. I sell these to the local markets and I also give some away to the needy as part of my way of giving back to society. My husband and I also supply milk from our cattle to schools. This is how we earn our living and how our children have managed to attend school. We plan to use funds we will receive to buy more Napier grass for the cattle and buy more seedlings for our crops since it is the rainy season.
With the funds from Zidisha, I will uplift my business by buying extra seedlings and Napier and therefore making more profits. This will allow me to also uplift my family's life and livelihood and my neighborhood's growth.
Healthy with a whole lot of happy!
