My name is Cindy, I am 24 years old. I am the second born of three. I am from kenya in kajiado region, a town called Ongata rongai. I finished high school and found a part time job that enabled me to help raise tuition for my marketing diploma. Unfortunately shortly after I finished, my boss declared bankruptcy and shut down the business. I had been looking for employment opportunities since last year but I still did not find any job. That is when I realised that I needed to stop looking for people to give me a livelihood and start a small business that would help me solve my financial problems. I plan to go along this journey and come out stronger as my own boss, with the help of zidisha and with my determination to make something of myself.
I started dealing with second hand clothes. I always go to the market on Sundays after church, since that is the towns Open market day. Afterwards I iron the clothes and hang them from outside my neighbours shop. I work from Mondays to Saturdays, where I open the shop from 9:00am to 7:00pm. I make at least 250 shillings daily, after paying the city council their daily rates and after expenses.
I sell clothes outside of my neighbours shop. She was kind enough to Help me get started. The disadvantage is that I am prone to effects of weather changes. Rain ruins my clothes, too much sunlight also ruins certain colours on the clothes and makes them fade. Sometimes its too dusty and the clothes get dirty as well. If I am able to get the loan,I will be able to rent a small stall where I can start selling and I will also have more security from the weather and other things as well. I will use 60$ as a deposit. 60$ as rent for the shop. I will use 50$ to buy more stock and 30$ to add more hangers for my shop.
