I grew up in the slums of Githurai, where dreams often fade before they start. In the early 2000s my father brought home an old, secondhand computer, and it changed everything for me. I taught myself video editing, turned it into a career, and built a life my younger self could only imagine. Now, I’m giving that same chance to others by donating computers to our local schools whenever I can and working to provide free internet. My goal is making sure the next generation in my community gets the best foundation they can.
I’m a remote video editor serving clients worldwide, and I run a small media company offering creative services. Alongside my work, I farm, keeping chickens and recently, a fish pond to help feed my family, stay self-sufficient and generate some extra income.
My goal is launching a Wireless Internet Service Provider (WISP) in my community, where reliable internet is scarce but desperately needed. Living off-grid keeps my expenses low, allowing me to focus on growing this venture.
The WISP is more than a business, it’s part of a bigger dream. I plan to reinvest profits to expand coverage and eventually build a technology focused school, extending my parents’ legacy of education and giving the next generation the tools to thrive in a digital world.
I have been battling issues with insecurity for my chicken. Mongoose have been destroying the structure and killing my chicken. I have tried reinforcement with boards which have proven to be a good safety measure, but the mongoose has broken some of it, and keeps on destroying the iron sheet exterior. With these funds, I will change the iron sheets to a more durable metal drum sheets. I will also add 20-30 more chicken and cover feed for all the chicken. I will also install a solar powered system to provide heat as well as lighting and also help power the equipment for the fish pond and farm equipment. I will also install anti-theft installations to further secure the chicken. The chicken are an important part of our food security as well as a stable income source.
