Am hanna karanja and a widow i was born in Lanet ,Nakuru town of Kenya,i went to school at the age of 7years and when i was in standard four my mother died and i was brought up by one parent my father who is old now,i went to secondary school ,and passed well but my father was not able to take me to high school because of other siblings thats my 3brothers and one sister who later died .i joined college where i did a course in Animal Health and was not employed by Government but i have been employing my self through small business of keeping layers, latter i got married and my husband died 2014 and left me with five children the last born is 13years.
since then i have been dealing with layers ,these are chicken which lay eggs as for know i have ahundred chickens ,andthe ones laying ara sixty, everyday i do get about 45,upto 55egges per day where i keep the egges till they are 10tray that is about300eggs in a week and i do sell 12shillings per egg that is a total ofSh3600. what i do is to keep them in different ages so that the laying is circle and the selling is circled too
i will buy 10one day old chick at 1000shillings buy chickmash about 580per 20kg which will take almost 11/2month,then buy growers to feed for11/2 month then buy layers for two month and my chicken start laying .if am Lucky to get more layer than cockers them they can be giving me about 70eggs per 10days multiply by 12 thus 840per 10days which is a good return Alternatively if i get about four cockles at five month i I sell between 500-700shs each depending on the size and weight so 4*500=2000which is an added advantage
