I began my academic journey as a young boy, culminating in the completion of my KCPE in 2007 with a commendable B+ grade. Despite this achievement, financial constraints delayed my entry into secondary school. After two challenging years, I finally enrolled and completed my KCSE in 2013. Tragically, during this period, I lost my mother, who had been supporting my secondary education through her small business. Determined to continue my studies, I persevered and secured admission to Kenyatta University. Initially, I relied on bursaries and part-time self-employment to finance my education. However, when the bursaries ceased, I transitioned to full-time entrepreneurship to sustain my academic pursuits. Today, I successfully balance my business endeavors while financing my education through a school-based program. With unwavering dedication, I am on track to graduate with a degree program within a year. Despite the challenges and setbacks along the way, I am immensely proud of my journey and deeply grateful to Zidisha for empowering me to turn my aspirations into reality.
My first training was on videography at Abedys Media Studios. After mastering the art of camera work, I decided to embark on a new adventure. Transitioning from capturing moments at events to running a tuck shop felt like a natural progression. Now, I spend my days serving customers with a smile, offering them a variety of snacks, drinks, and essentials. While my focus has shifted from the lens to the counter, my passion for entrepreneurship and providing for others remains as strong as ever.
I have already started a poultry farming business and invested in key infrastructure, including feeders, drinkers, a 600-chick capacity brooder, and a 1,000-bird capacity poultry house. The funds from this loan will be used to scale up the business.
I intend to purchase a 500-egg capacity incubator and hatcher at Ksh 70,000 to allow me to hatch my own chicks instead of buying day-old chicks, reducing costs and ensuring steady supply.
I intend to purchase 17 crates of fertilized eggs for Ksh 5,100 to fully utilize the incubator.
I intend to further purchase 10 bags of 50kgs Chick feeds (starter mash) for Ksh 35,000 to support healthy early growth.
I will also invest in veterinary inputs, vaccinations and supplements projected to cost Ksh 15,000.
I intend to pay electricity bill for brooding and incubation during the critical early stages best estimated at Ksh 5,000
I also intend to pay one assistant to help me feeding, cleaning, monitoring chicks and general farm management. The cost will be Ksh 8,000 per month
There is need to have some miscellaneous and contingency expenses to cover unexpected costs such as repairs, transport, and hygiene supplies.
This project will increase my income by lowering chick production costs and increasing the number of birds raised per cycle. It will make my poultry business more profitable, reliable, and scalable.
The increased income will help meet household needs such as food, education, healthcare, and savings. The business will also provide long-term financial stability.
The project will contribute to local food security by supplying affordable chicks, eggs, and poultry products. It will also create employment for at least one person and support local suppliers such as agrovet shops.
