I was born in 1983 in Pikine, in the region of Dakar. I am single and have no children, and I live in Unit 26 of Parcelles Assainies. I live with my parents. I have sisters and brothers, with whom I live in the same house. I currently manage a processing plant that turns local cereals into millet and maize powder. I studied the Koran from a very young age. I did that for 10 years, and afterwards I trained in carpentry. Because having a profession in Senegal poses a lot of problems here, the lack of business growth in this sector, and lack of resources to develop the carpentry profession, I turned towards implementing a local cereal processing plant. I created this processing plant to generate income. My parents are originally from Salou in the region of Kaolack, which is where my grandparents live. My father came to live in Pikine more than 30 years ago to raise a family and all my brothers and sisters were born in this city in the Dakar region.
My business is a local cereal processing plant situated in Unit 26 of Parcelles Assainies. There is a real demand for this service in the neighborhood because a lot of people need to process cereal to make consumer products like couscous, and millet and corn porridge — dishes very popular in Senegalese households and that are staples for dinners. Due to the nonexistence of a processing plant in the neighborhood, and to meet the urgent and existing demands of implementing a plant at Unit 26 of Parcelles Assainies, I created the plant 5 years ago to turn this into an income-generating activity. Since its implementation, this business has made average monthly revenues of around 300,000 FCFA, and expenses incurred with the processing plant include rental costs and electricity. I work with one of my brothers with whom I share the revenue of the processing plant.
I plan on using this loan to expand my cereal processing plant. With this loan, I will be able to buy three more grinders: one for peanuts, one for millet, and another for other grains. With these new grinders, I am sure that I will be able to make 50,000 FCFA per day. With this money, I would be able to repay the loan on time with no problem, as was the case with my first two loans. This is my third loan request from Zidisha, which is assisting me and my business. I am happy to continue working with you.
