I was born in kikuyu county in the former kiambu county to a family of 13 siblings as last borne. My father was a farmer and and hardware business man I finished primary level education only and did not proceed since all my parents died and i was left under the care of my elder brother.
My sister called me to Nairobi in 1993 to support her in small grocery business at Mathare slums. I trained as a tailor later in Eldoret town where i got married in 1999 and we migrated to Kibera in the year 2001 where we have settled since then.
I decided to operate business since it was the opportunity that i show will make money and support my family. I have 5 boys all who are in school and we are using a lot in their school fees.
My father was a business man and i loved business since when i was young.
The Business iis for Baking Mandazi and selling to the neighbors around each day in the morning and late evening. I started this business in the year 2001 when i had tried to look for employment and failed. To support myself and family I decided to engage myself with this business. The business faces the challenges of finances in the day to day operations. I also need a permanent stall where i can carry out the business instead of the current open stall. The customers for my business are mostly women who come for mandazi to take with morning and after supper tea or uji. Also the school going children come to take mandazi to use during lunch or break time in school. In future i wish to produce enough to start distributing around the area and nearby estates.
I am proud of the baking process as i produce various sizes of mandazi for the market.
The loan will be used to buy wheat flour (Unga Ngano) for baking Manadazi. one bale is sold at a cost of 500 and i use 1 bale of twelve packets daily. The amount is enough to buy 7 bales for one week.
The profits that will be generated daily will improve the outlook of my business and support my family upkeep. The future of improved profits will support us build a house in our rural area for the family. As a result our stability will be assured in the business and the support towards the education of our children will be accomplished.
