Growing up, I watched how food brings people together, which deeply rooted my love for our local culture and land. My journey to launching Mchekenzi flour mills in Malindi town was not easy. I had to overcome major financial and logistical hurdles to get here.
Armed with professional expertise from the African milling school in Nairobi Kenya, I overcame these challenges to build a modern processing business.
Through God's grace and hard work I am proud to provide high quality professionally milled nutritions flour to our Kilifi county community today.
Outside of work, my favorite pastime is stepping into new environments and meeting new people from all works of life.
As a Christian, my greatest mission at home is raising my children to be well-schooled, grounded and great leaders for tomorrow.
My business provides essential nutrition through maize milling. I produce premium maize flour witches are stable food, nutritious porridge flour and high quality chicken feeds.
In addition to my retail products, I open doors to the community by offering affordable, direct milling services for our local farmers who bring in their own grain.
Maize is the heartbeat of our local diet and agriculture. Food and animal feeds are always in high demand because they meet fundamental daily human and livestock needs. By transforming raw maize into affordable, accessible and self-stable products, I ensure that families stay fed and local poultry farmers can sustain their livelihoods. I chose this business because I saw a vital, unfilled gap in my community. People who are traveling too far just to get their grains processed and quality flour was often overpriced.
I wanted to build a business that did more than just generate income-I wanted to solve a local problem.
Stepping into this industry allowed me to create a dependable supply chain right where it is needed most. My daily operations involve standard cost and steady revenue streams:
Cost: Raw maize sourcing, electricity, machine maintenance, packaging materials and labor.
Revenue: Direct sales of flour and feeds alongside consistent fees from my walk-in milling services.
Who growth is my primary focus. Every single scent of profit is strictly reinvested directly back into the business.
I will use funds to upgrade my machinery, increase my storage capacity and purchase raw grain in bulky to lower my unit cost. Your backing will directly accelerated this growth allowing me to serve more families support more local farmers and build a more food secure community.
Mchekenzi flour mills: Nourishing the community.
Budget breakdown
Regulatory compliance: county government single business permit (license) Ksh. 6,000
Direct production: 2 wholesale bags of raw maize 5,000 per bag Ksh. 10,000
Power and operations: 3-phase electricity token, high voltage consumption Ksh. 12,000
Equipment maintenance: 3-phase motor servicing, belt tightening, and mill screens Ksh. 6,000
Packaging and branding: heavy-duty branded bags for premium flour and feeds Ksh. 3,000
Total 37,000
Securing my legal compliance must be my first priority. By paying the Ksh. 6,000 county fee immediately, I protect my mill from aggressive local enforcement shutdowns, unexpected penalties and costly disruptions in my daily walk-in customer traffic.
With my legal foundation secured I can focus on managing my heavy 3-phase power costs. Allocating Ksh. 12,000 directly to prepaid power tokens prevents sudden operational downtime. Because 3-phase motors carry heavy fixed standing charges and high consumption rates, pre-purchasing this power ensures I can confidently run long, uninterrupted milling shifts.
Finally maintaining motor efficiency keeps my running cost under control. I will use 6,000 maintenance funds to check my capacitor banks, grease bearings and align the drive belts.
A well-maintained 3-phase motor draws significantly less current which drastically lowers my power bills for every single bag of maize I process.
