My name is Julius Musungu and i am 27 years old.I am afreelance journalist working in remote rigions of Kajiado.Ever since i was young i loved reading newspapers and teeling stories and immediately after High school i i was lucky enough to join a journalism class where i studied journalism how to write and edit stories.

However after completing my education, very few newspapers in Kenya were willing to give young people jobs as they simply could not pay.

However i never gave up ,i kept sending small write ups to various newspapers in Kenya until i got a call from a Nation newspaper in Kenya who wanted a correspondent for the region i was operating in called Kajiado county.I currently reside in Kitengela.

The Editors however made it clear that there is no salary and i will only be paid out of the articles i write.I saw it as a golden opportunity and that when i started writing.

Kajiado county is a semi arid area with beautiful landscape,Inhabited by the Maasai people with a rich culture. They face many problems like FGM and early marriages.

The problem with working in the region is that it is very remote with poor road network and poor infrastructure.

I get paid at least Kshs 300 for an article i submit and it is published depending on the space and size it occupies in the news paper. This is collected and paid at the end of the month.

I gather news and do feature stories for the paper. In a day can spend at least 100 Kshs on internet and power for my laptop. However at the rural areas transport cost depends on the location and sometimes it may go to up to 500 Kshs to 1000.

I chose to do this business as it is flexible and is something i love doing and it at least provides me with something small at the end of the month to pay rent and eat.

I intend to purchase a good camera that, upgrade the laptop i use now and eventually kick start my own business.

Because e i travel a lot, i will need to purchase a high speed internet Modem that can be able to send stories quickly and in areas where there is minimum communication.

The price of the Modem is 100 Dollars and a high speed connectivity will enable me and even my fellow associates use it to keep writing more articles.

I expect with the flexibility it will provide i will be able to write more stories and send them with immediacy and in turn increase the rate of output by at least 30% of the current earnings.

In addition i intend to purchase a good camera that i will use to take photos at the various functions i will be attending in exchange for a small fee.

I will also use the money in photography to expand the rate of sending stories to my organisation. The Nation Media group
