Born and raised Kenyan,I have had passion for social projects based on my pursuit for better living conditions for not just my family but my community as well.
My life changing social project was the World of Difference project by Safaricom Foundation that gave me an opportunity to work with the undeserved in my society and enable them create sustainable economic empowerment projects.I introduced learning through apprenticeship where members of the community with little or no formal business training partner with University students from different business specialty like accounting, finance marketing, procurement as well as Product development. The community members would then describe what business idea they have passion in and the team would work on establishing the business.Business systems would then be introduced and the members of the community would then be able to get first hand guidance on managing the business fir 1 year, upon which they are given full management, with the students retaining 20% share and would act as advisors going forward.
We were able to establish 22 self-sustaining enterprises that impacted both the teams and continue to impact them to date.
I'm currently working with severely physically disabled women in my community to create self sustaining economic empowerment by giving each disabled woman a dairy cow, managing the cows on their behalf and giving them a decent monthly stipend and savings to their target savings account.
Dubbed "A dairy cow one disabled woman project", we now have about 25 disabled women in the group,a team of dedicated youth who are paid to feed and milk the cows, and a management consisting of the disabled women themselves.
We have got quite a number of requests from would be members but we lack enough capital to absorb more members. Our target is to have every disabled woman join because we believe that empowering a woman is empowering a whole community.
Our costs involves first purchase of dairy heifers, buying feeds and salaries and revenues consist mainly of sales revenue from milk.Profits are mainly distributed as savings based on shareholding by our members fir their target goals like their children's school fees, housing and household items purchase.
Purchase two more average dairy cows to grow our membership and improve our milk production for the increasing demand, thus socially and economically benefitting our physically disabled women members.
