My names are Alex shanambe third born in a family of 7.i am 23 years of age , i started my 1st grade in 2002 at chibolya basic and completed my grade 12 in 2013 with a high school leaving certificate.
i grew up from a shanty compound raised by a single mother who is unemployed with have survived through her run business called ntembe or small shop made of wood covered with plastics.we sell charcoal, fritters, eggs and vegetable for the big population of kanyama.
From my mothers business i came to understand that people can change their lives through entrepreneurship,in 2014 June with capital which i raised from family, friends and the income from the part time job that i do for steers Zambia as a dish washer i managed to raise some capital to start a stationery shop next to my compound only high school. i 1st started with a one desk top computer and a sizeable printer with time i managed to get a photocopier and continued running my business whilst helping mum and growing my business with my dream of wanting to build it into the biggest stationery shop and the only internet cafe in kanyama compound by 2017-2018.
i have always believed in business as a solution to my problems,i opened a savings account with one of the local bank were i save to buy a bigger printer and then buy a photocopier to solve the growing demands and provide quality work to customers.
Now am more than confident than before that my business will be a successful project with the person to person Zidisha funds am more than grateful, and my dream of owning a big business and going to college seems near.thanks to Zidisha.
My hobbies are playing chess, football and cooking which i developed recent because of working with people from the kitchens at steers restaurant were i work as a dish washer my time job.
My shop is known as the copy center,i named it copy center because of the services i offer such as photocopying ,typing ,printing and stationery products such as pens, pencils, plain paper, books etc..
Being one of the few people offering such services in my area the demand as continued increasing thus the need to expand the business.
I chose the stationery business because it doesnt demand very high capital inputs, has low risks compared to other business i had on my list beside that i wanted to find solution to the problem of people having to travel to town just to type or print a page, which i did by opening copy center.
My main cost i face most of the times are paper cost, ink for the printer and rentals for my shop space.lately have been buying in bulks to avoid unnecessary costs .
in a very busy month i make profits of K1000-1200 (US 100-120) a month. but when i have alot of machine breakdown and repairs due to due printer or photocopier wear, K500-K1000.this business has been profitable enough to save some for growing my business and for helping mum buy food and other home requirements.
Would like to get a Canon Photocopier(3in1-photocopy,print&scan) which costs about 300USD,unfortunately i only managed to save 150 USD from my business profits, am in short of almost 150-160USD.
this equipment will bring about huge benefits in term of profits since i will be able to beat targets and deliver quality work leading to customer retention and increased incomes in terms of revenue, not only will it benefit me but the community from were i serve aswell.they no longer have to travel distances for prints or photocopying or to wait on the queue.
With such an equipment in place i expect my profits to increase by 50%-60% .from roughly the 100USD-140USD to 150USD-170USD a month
