Hello, my name is Pauline from Kenya. A mother of 3 children who live in Kanamai, Kilifi County.
Having lived in the city previously, farming life proved to be a challenge with the going back and forth, from Mombasa to Kilifi to oversee or collect farm vegetables and fruits ready for sale
At the onset of the COVID19 pandemic and having lost my mother, who was in my care to Sarcoma just before the pandemic, I decided to permanently move to the rural kanamai, Kilifi.
My business is farming, both in cash crops and poultry rearing.
I have planted amaranthus, giant nightshade, jalapenos, okra, brinjals, pawpaws, and long sweet plantains.
Also, have a chicken shed where I rear the rainbow chicken, that I sell eggs and meat.
I also do online freelance work from various sites like appen.com, trans perfect, transcription and article writing.
In my local community, along the main feeder roads, there has been a decline in numbers of women who earned their livelihoods by frying and selling broiler chicken.
Many of these women relied on nearby farms for supply of birds, but because of rising transport costs and after conducting a ground check that revealed only 3 within my vicinity and two of them have a steady market to the urban town hence overlooking the potential advantage of doing business with the local women.
Therefore I want to address the challenge they are facing by offering a solution and venture into the broiler sector.
I would use the funds to purchase
