My name is John Chege Wambui. I am 33 years old and married to one wife and together have 2 children. I grew up watching my parents doing and motivated me to do farming. I am a university graduate with a bachelor degree in Education Arts (Kiswahili and Geography).
One challenge that I have always faced in achieving my goals has been limited financial resources. My parents spend a lot of money on paying for my school fees up to the university level. After that, I started small by planting potatoes on a quarter of an acre of land. I have expanded my farming and now operates 4 acres.
I do crop farming and have now diversified it to venture into layers chickens. My passion for layers chickens has been fueled by the increased demand for eggs and chicken meat in my community.
My community is known for hard work and limited land. As a result, many people have ventured into different businesses.
My children are young. As the father, I plan to educate them and later help them in venturing into business or farming.
In my free time, I enjoy watching farming documentaries to learn more about farming. This hobby has helped me learn much about farming.
I recently started poultry farming as a business. My aim is to rear quality layers of chicken to be selling eggs and chicken meat in the future. I have used USD 400 in this project and plan to expand it to USD 10000 after six months.
Chicken meat and eggs are currently in high demand from local customers and hotels. Therefore, a steady demand is assured. The demand is enough that I can sell the products on a daily basis.
I have some chicken and cages. The expenses that I have now include buying more chicken and building more structures. I also wish to buy vaccines and medicines for the common diseases. I also plan to stock enough chicken feed so that I will not have to go to the agrovet frequently or starve the chicken. This is because my business is still new. My focus is to grow slowly at first and use the revenue for further growth.
I have not yet acquired profits. For the first month, I will use the profits to reinvest in the poultry farming and develop it even more. After that, I will use the revenue to cater to my daily family expenses and pay school fees for the children.
I am seeking funds to expand my poultry farming business. I aim to increase the number of the layerschicken and cages gradually. I will also be working hard to ensure the health of the chicken is okay, and the productivity is high.
I will use the first funds to purchase essential vaccines as well as a small amount of chicken feed. I know the importance of vaccines for chickens. They ensure that the birds are well protected from common diseases. They therefore remain healthy and productive at all times.
My efforts are motivated by the fact that currently there is a high demand for egg and chicken meat in my community. There
is a wide market from households, shops, and hotels. This motivates me to grow this project over time.
For the next 3 months, I will be reinvesting my earnings back into the business to ensure that I increase my stock. In the long-term, this project will help me to support my family and cater to our daily needs and my children's school fees.
