My name is Esther Wambui. Being born in a family of three siblings, as the first born in the family, my parents were able to take me through primary and secondary school education.
After secondary school, I joined the Hair Dressing School in Nyeri for a period of one and a half years, where I trained as a hairdresser and barber, and took other courses like manicure and pedicure. During my stay in Nyeri while in college, I was visiting various renowned salons and barber shops to familiarize myself with the owners and the skills and, after completing my course, I secured a job in one of the salons and worked there for about four years. I also joined one ladies' merry-go-round [banking] group where I was making my contributions and savings.
I am married with one son. I love singing, travelling and reading novels, and I am in a choir team in our church.
As I was growing, I learnt that life is how you plan it. My background was not that easy as I was learning, and this made me do what I do with a lot of passion. My business capital came from the money that I acquired from the banking group, and I relocated to Mukurwe-Ini, where I opened a salon and a barber shop all together.
The business is so good because the majority of my clients are men for the service of shaving and manicures. Ladies also are not left out, and they also come for salon services and also for manicures & pedicures because the prices at my business are customer-friendly.
Since I started this business, it has done so much for me and my family because where I live we bought the land with my husband where we each contributed 50% of the buying price of the land. I have also offered jobs to 3 ladies and 1 gentleman at my business.
The profit that I get I use it for my upkeep and for the savings at the group for future progress. With this great chance that I have had to be in Zidisha family, now my business is going to expand to greater heights. Thank you, the sky will be the limit.
First is to thank everyone at Zidisha team for this great opportunity. With the loan I am going to buy Andis Barber Clipper/Trimmer Combo at a cost of USD $90. This clipper/trimmer will be of great boost to my business because of its efficiency. It cuts wet or dry hair, thick or thin. It is whisper-quiet, smooth-running and the motor stays cool, which will make my customers feel comfortable, adding to the income and also the profit. This will assist me in loan repayment and do the savings adequately. Thank you for your kind support.
