I grew up in nakuru district, went to school up to Class 8, but didn’t continue due to lack of school fees. I later joined Jua Kali sector and trained in mechanical work and graduated with grade 3. I was also trained in tailoring by AMPATH F.P.I. I went through a business class and agriculture in the same institution and got a credit. I had little capital and cereals, just needed a little capital to start. The availability of cereals was easy and fast especially in the rural areas. I transported them using my bicycle to the urban areas where the demand is high. Apart from cereals, I also buy and sell sheep. Getting sheep is easy and doesn’t need much time to go and look for them. There is available market and a good profit margin. Customers prefer my products because I choose cereals that are clean and ensure that they are weighed on a good weighing scale. It’s my plan to buy a piece of land so that I can stay on my own land. I also want to buy a dairy cow and later buy a pick-up because am tired of using a bicycle.
My business deals with cereals and sheep. I buy and sell maize, beans, sorghum, millet wheat and sheep. I started this business in 2013.
Initially, I was in the Jua kali sector as a mechanic. I left because it flooded with many mechanics, so I decided to start a cereals business because I knew this business will enable me to pay fees for my children and fend for my family. The challenges that I face is that sometimes you can buy cereals at a high price and keep as stock, only to realize after a short while that the prices have dropped. The other challenge is on finances - there are a times when my suppliers have the commodity and I don’t have enough cash to buy as much as I want.
My customers are: posho mills, butcheries, schools, markets, neighbors, men, women and where there is a ceremony. My goal for the business is that I want to have my own store to keep my cereals and be able to supply my cereals with a pick up, not a bicycle. Lastly, also to start selling cattle in addition to sheep.
together with my savings i will purchase stock of one sack of maize for sell in my cereals business,
Im looking forward for increased profits in my business.
Thanks zidisha for your continued suport.
