I started a business because I've always wanted to be an employer rather than an employee. I've always had big dreams and I take advantage of every opportunity that comes my way, big or small. My business is still small but it keeps growing and my dreams for the future is to get into real estate. My current business and primary source of income is a company called Kwanza Ventures that I started with my friend Lucia Bosire.
The company supplies fresh fruits and vegetables which we grow in my parents farm up country. The turn over for the year ending 2014 stands at ksh 1.2M ($13,283) This money is equally shared among the 2 shareholding partners after all expenses are paid, giving each of us a monthly income of ksh 50,000 ($561) the money is not much, but I manage it quite well and it can enable me pay back the loan.

I started my goat rearing business 2 years ago with just 4 goats at the time which I purchased at ksh 2000 each ($22), fed and raised the goats so much so that when I was selling them I was able to sell one 3 months later for ksh 8000 ($89), that's how my business was born! My stock has since grown from 4 to 28. Now I realise I can make the business bigger and better by changing how I've been doing things. Instead of buying younger goats and raising them to maturity, i'd rather purchase breeders, use artificial insemination to induce the breeding process thereby increasing my stock. This process will require more financial input which will pay off in the long run. I'd like to start with 5 breeders each costing ksh 8000 ($89) X 5= ksh 40,000 ($449), artificial insemination would cost me ksh 500 ($5.6) per goat X 5=ksh 2500 ($28) my loan limit will not be sufficient to cover for all this but I will supplement with profit from sale of existing stock. In so doing I will increase productivity which will in turn increase my profits since the breeders are my own.
