Background:

Kelvin Lan is my name and I am 35 years old from Kogi Nigeria. I attended my primary school LGEA primary school Kogi and secondary school was Government Model School Ankpa Kogi state. I am married with 3 kids.

My business:

My business is the rearing of cattles particularly cows. I have 2 male cattles that was passed down to me by my late father. I raised the cows from calf level to their current adult size. I learnt the business from my late father who was also a herdsman. He owned over 15 cows and these cattles were evenly distributed between my siblings and I upon his demise.

Family:

My father and mother are late and I am a happily married man with 3kids. My kids are aged 11, 8 and 4 respectively. There are all in primary school. My wife runs a flour grinding business in the village where we live

I am a cattle rearer(cows) and I currently own 2 male cows. My desire is to buy a female cow so that I can breed them with the male cows and have offspring that I can continuously train to become full adults. My plan is sell this cows when matured and use the money realised to buy more cows and rear. There is a high demand for beef in my location and I have a great market to sell to. I sell to individuals who also want to buy and rear, I sell to restaurants, hotels and many more.

I learnt the business from my father who taught me how to outsource for quality breed of cow to match with. So I focus on buying the sokoto budabi breed which has a large amount of muscles and are disease resistant.

Cows take up to 9 months to give birth and I project to own at least 10cows at the end of next year with a ratio of 2:8 males to females respectively. The cost of a female non matured cow which I intend to buy costs about #150,000 naira. When I buy it I intend to raise it to adult size. When fully matured, a female cow can sell up to 600,000 naira

My desire is to buy 2 female cows to upgrade my business. I currently have 2 male cows and I desire to match them with the female cows I'll purchase to ensure their continuity.

By next year, I hope to have up to 10 cows win total with a ratio of 2 male to 8 female cows
