My name is Grace Dawo from Nyanza province. I was born in a small town called Thika in Kiambu county. I come from a very humble family and am the second born in a family of eight, five girls and three boys. I started my primary education in Muslim primary school and later joined a girls school in Murang'a County. After my O levels i was not able to join university because my other siblings were also in school and so my parents could not afford my fees.
For this reason i started looking for casual jobs in Thika town in order to support my parents. it was not easy though but all in all my contribution towards my family could be felt. This also contributed to an early marriage where i have five children. The unfortunate thing happened three years ago when I lost my husband and was left with a heavy task of educating our children. The good thing is that while was doing the casual jobs i happened to land in a firm which was manufacturing peanut butter. I got a lot of interest so when my husband died I Bought a grinding machine. I have been in this business today .
Luos in Kenya are known to have unique cultures especially when i passes on or when construction your home.
My first born would like to be business lady in future thought she is pursuing her degree course , the second one would like to be a hotelier, the third an engineer ,the fourth an artist and the last born would like to be a teacher.
I like reading novels and swimming.
I am a peanut butter manufacturer. I process the nuts into butter with a special machine i bought some years back. The nuts are first roasted until when they turn brownish in color is when the grinding starts.
This product is very useful and in demand because it is a natural product with no many addictive and preservatives. It is also very good for children because it does not have chemical so many parents prefer it instead of blue band.
I chose this kind of business because i had worked in a peanut butter manufacturing firm and had known how to process the product.
What i need for the production on peanut butter are nuts, containers of different gram mes and charcoal for roasting the nuts. These is because i have not been able to buy an electric roaster. When the Zidisha organization gives me a loan i will make sure a buy one to make my work easier and make the product in large quantity. An affordable roaster will go for US Dollars 200. i will make sure i have one very soon.
The profits i get from my business has enabled me to pay school fees for my children, reinvest in my business and pay all my bills e.g house rent, electricity and water. And therefore I am confident that i will be able to pay my loans without any problem.
When i get my third loan i intend to repair my roasting machine which broke down a few weeks again and the pay for the remaining documentation which are underway. And then the remaining amount will be used to add stock for my business.
My customers will have the product whenever they need it and my profit will also increase.
I expect to get more than fifty percent profit.
