I am a freelance writer and youth leader in my community. I work with youth groups to encourage them to cultivate a culture of saving and engage in business. My inspiration to engage in business comes from my mother who did small businesses to provide for my family when my father lost his job. I have seen her nurture her fish business and love the independence and empowerment that entrepreneurship gives an individual. I also want to engage in business because I understand the value of small businesses in my community.
I love reading, listening to music and above all talking to people.
I started Dress to Impress which supplies affordable second clothes online.www.facebook.com/pages/Dress-To-Impress/460383807371815?ref=h
I decided to sell second hand clothes because my friends always thought I wore good clothes and were always asking where I bought them. People love my clothes because they are affordable compared to the competition. At the moment, my stock is really small because I do no have the capital to buy new stock. I want to engage my Facebook page more because it has the capacity to grow if I have more stock. I had My dream is to make Dress to Impress the go to online shop for second hand clothes. I mainly sell women's clothes but might venture into men's clothes once am settled. I buy clothes wholesale from a market and the minimum profit I can make from each cloth is 50% of what I bought it. Women's clothes and accessories are always in demand and my plan is to eventually become a supplier rather than retailer. Many people sell second hand clothes and the main risk is not being able o beat your competition but this is not a problem for me because am making use of the network that I have to sell the clothes.
At the moment am not making use of my Facebook Page as I should because of the limited stock that I have. The loan that I get from Zidisha will enable me to increase the stock of second hand clothes. I buy clothes every week from the market and use WhatsApp to send pictures to my current clients. They make their orders and my stock is normally sold out within two days.
I expect that increasing the use of the Facebook platform will increase the demand for my clothes and I need to be in a position to supply the demand. My current stock is worth $50 and from that I make around $35 each week. It is difficult for me to reinvest in the business because this amount helps me to cater for my needs but with $150, I will be able to make three times what I make each week and I can finally grow this business to the heights I envision for it.
I am also exploring getting into men's clothes and this money will allow me to buy a small stock of men's clothes to see if I can also be able to sell men's clothes. Growing my business is something am passionate about and getting this loan will allow me to do that in order to become financially independent.
