Thank you for this opportunity.

I was born and brought up in a rural-based community. I was taken to school and completed my primary and secondary education. My parents are peasants and practiced mixed farming. I am born in a family of 4, two boys and two girls. Being the first born, I was schooling while helping my parents with domestic work like taking the cows to the river and fetching firewood, among other activities. However, my parents were not well off and relied mainly on cash crops and food crops to educate and feed us. The burden of school fees crippled my dream of becoming an accountant, despite attaining the best grades to study the course. This was because all the other [siblings] were in school and the school fees became unbearable for my parents to raise.

All in all, I resorted to doing old and manual jobs, like being a casual laborer in a farm, just to cater for my needs and be independent financially. Later on, I moved to Nairobi where I was employed in a butchery to sell meat. I gained more experience in the business and saved money to start my own. The time came for my employer to close down the butchery, and I took advantage of the already set up facility to continue with the business as mine. It was not an easy journey for me since I didn't have enough money to buy all the requirements. I called my uncle, who gave me some money. This is how I came to start my own business and I am happy.

What is unique about the land or culture of the place I live is that the community braces one another for national cohesion and integration. My children would want to be educated well and gain skills to acquire jobs or be entrepreneurs. My unique hobbies are watching football and helping youths to avoid drugs and violence.

Meanwhile, my business mainly deals with selling meat in a butchery. Also I sell eggs and chicken. These are the products I provide.

These products are always in high demand because they are foodstuffs and therefore a basic need. People find it possible to add proteins to their diet and decide to buy meat. I decided to choose this business because I had experience and I loved it, besides making a huge profit.

My typical costs are usually buying the stock, which is mainly meat, eggs and chickens. Other costs are the cost of transportation, which contributes largely on most of the expenses. I also pay for my assistant's salary, the electricity bill, rent, security and water.

My profit usually goes towards meeting these expense and my personal expenditures, as well as helping my parents, who are now old and less productive. I also reinvest the surplus. Thank you.

Thank you. In my business of selling meat [at a] butchery, I want to focus on stocking my other outlet to include a fully branded butchery and equipment. I will buy more stock of meat ($130.00). Also in my plan will be more eggs at a cost of $30.00 and chicken at $45.00. I will include a section for ready-to-eat meat ('fly') or a restaurant with kitchen equipment, since the pace is big, at a cost of $65.00, as well as other food materials to cook fast-moving food for frequent customers.

This will make another opportunity for me, as the new target of my profit will now shoot from the current $40.00 per day to $60.00. I will reinvest more in my business and do more other activities. My Zidisha loan will be paid without delay and I look forward to a more prosperous future with the Zidisha lending platform. Thank you.
