I am Michael from Nairobi Kenya. I went to Ruga primary school and died my early studies. I later joined tailoring in after finishing primary school s I lacked fees to progress to secondary. I have learnt a lot in this work as my hard upbringing, nobody to school me or educate my siblings. I had to take this opportunity to elevate myself and feed my siblings. I just started my repairing torn clothes for my rural locals and later saved for bus fare to start life and greener pastures in Nairobi. My first visit wasn't that good as I ha no one to give a place to sleep . This made work harder as I knew I had no one to lean on just me. I got someone who took me to Uhuru a known tailoring community in Nairobi. I could work for less than dollar just to get up and get something to eat.i believed in my future. I worked hard every single day and saved enough money to rent a place to stay for 5 dollars. I slowly started saving to buy my own machine , though it was tough as I had many mouths to feed. I couldn't buy as I had children to feed and to clothe. From my earnings I save to pay fees for my 4 children. My firstborn jut joined university to pursue degree in Civil engineering. Am a proud father. The other two in primary and one already in secondary. They are doing well in studies and they all want to be doctors.
I spend my free time watching documentaries.
I majorly tailor trousers for both school children and adults.
The clothes are in demand as every school children put on uniforms as well as adults wear the tailored suits and trousers. I choose this because it's highly in demand as clothing is a basic need .
I incur material costs and get revenue in terms of sale and repairs.
I use my profits to pay rent, fees and buy food for my family. I save some as I want to buy another machine and also add more stocks. I plan to employ more people hence giving back to community.
I will use the funds to buy material measured in yards. I'll use the sales profit to add more materials so that I provide more clothing to the community.
I will also be able to provide food and pay shelter for my family besides paying fees for my children.
