I'm a young Kenyan who spent my formative years in the rural Rift Valley Highlands, surrounded by tea plantations. Despite coming from a modest background, I recently completed my Bachelor's Degree. Now, as I navigate my way into society, I've chosen to delve into mixed farming since formal job opportunities are scarce. In my free time, I find joy in nurturing both plants and farm animals, which has motivated my decision to pursue this path.
As a mixed farmer, I engage in a diverse range of agricultural activities that include tea cultivation, fruit and vegetable farming, as well as animal husbandry.
Tea farming involves planting and nurturing tea bushes, practicing proper pruning and fertilization techniques, and implementing effective pest control measures. Harvesting tea leaves at optimal times and processing them at a local factory.
In addition to tea, my farm produces a variety of fruits and vegetables. This includes tropical fruits such as bananas, mangoes, and pineapples. I also cultivate popular vegetables like cabbages, kales, and traditional leafy greens. Employing sustainable farming practices like crop rotation, organic fertilization, and integrated pest management ensures healthy yields and high-quality produce.
My livestock operations encompass cows, goats, and poultry. Caring for these animals involves providing adequate housing, nutrition, and healthcare. My cows yield milk daily, which you sell to customers seeking fresh dairy products. The goats provide meat and fiber, while poultry (chickens, ducks, etc.) supply eggs and meat. Managing these animals effectively ensures a steady supply of animal products for sale.
I market my farm produce directly to consumers by selling at the local town market on a weekly basis. My stall showcases a vibrant array of fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs, milk, and meat. Customers appreciate the variety and quality of your offerings, which encourages repeat business and builds customer loyalty. I am currently exploring opportunities to sell your products through online platforms and local partnerships to reach a broader customer base.
I am looking for money to pay my farm workers who will be harvesting my tea which is ready for sale. The picking will be done and payment will be paid this month. This is short term project that I will repay in less than two months.
