I'm from a poor family, born 4 boys and 4 girls, our parents were peasant farmers.
I went to primary school 7km from home and used to wake 4am and walk to and from school at times on an empty stomach due to poverty.
The hardships made me work hard and managed to qualify to high school hence collage where I achieved a diploma in mechanical engineering and milling technology. In milling I interact with feed manufacturers who buy the byproducts to make feeds hence got interested and started a poultry farm. My neighbours are poor and lack capital for business but if I succeed I will teach them and help them. My children are in college one taking biofuels and the other financial engineering. I like farming and at time I look after goats while at time, feeding chicken.
I keep indigenous chicken, hatch chick, sell eggs.
The white meat is in demand dye to its better nutritional value, healthy.
Indigenous chicken are easy to manage for they can ve free range or housed.
I started with free range hence added kuroilers which I housed.
Feeds are the most expensive and vaccines.
I sell the mature cocks, hatch chicks of which I sell and mix feeds and sell the surplus.
The profits I use to expand the business, educate the children and save for I want to buy a feed mixer so that I can sell the feeds commercially.
I will use the loan for the following :
- Built a poultry house of 1000 birds @ $500
- Buy a manual feed mixer @$300
- Buy raw materials @$200
With the above in place I will be able to stock more bird and increase sales and be able to make more feeds to sell to my neighbours who also I sell chicks to and any other.
This will raise my profits to 20% and make it possible to service bigger market. It will also create employment.
