My name is John Irungu I was born in 1964 at kangema in muranga county I went through my childhood hood milestones successfully and joined kangema primary school in 1970. In 1978 I sat for my C.P.E and passed well where I joined the secondary division of the same school in 1979 up to 1982 again I sat for K.C.S.E which was by then the final secondary examination. From school I joined michuki institute of science and technology for a course in agricultural technology for 3 years, after college I was employed by a dairy farm in othaya and remained there for 8 years as a dairy officer. The year 2002 I decided to quit employment and venture into self employment. It is at this juncture that I decided to join my brother in Gilgil town located in the rift valley of Kenya. With my savings from employment I was able to buy a piece of land at Gema estate where I started crop and daily farming, a business that Is my career up to date. I am married and blessed with three children.
My daily business is farming. I own a piece of land at Gema scheme which is about two kilometers in the outskirts of Gilgil town. I grow green vegetables, maize, beans, , etc apart from growing crops I also keep dairy cattle’s which I currently have 8 heads that produces milk which I sell and for my own domestic consumption. I deal with this kind of farming when I realized there is great demand of these commodities in the nearby town of Gilgil and beyond. I sell my crops at farm gate price to retailers from Gilgil Town. For the milk I sell to Brookside dairies who normally correct it outside my farm every morning I receive the payments at the end of the month I usually get USD$ 470 after deducting my overheads I am left with USD$ 235. It is from these proceeds that i was able to build my own house where I live in with my family. Buyers prefer my farm produce because they are of high quality since I have been doing this for the rest of my life; I have enough skills to produce the same. The only challenge I face is luck a modern spraying machine to spray crops to prevent them from attacks of parasites and other likes. Also luck of a cooler to preserve my milk before buyers arrive to collect it. With zidisha platform, I will be able to overcome these challenges and hence improve my living standard.
Thanks to the entire zidisha team for accepting me as a new member. for this loan i am going to purchase one more cow to add up to my hard. this will increase my milk production which i will sell for more profits. i thank all my potential lenders as they stretch their generous hand towards filling my bids.
To purchase an extra cow to add up to my hard
