I am a last born in a family of seven. My family and I lived in Meru District in Kenya. My parents are peasant farmers and still live in Meru.
After completing high school, I came to Nairobi to look for a casual job while living with my elder sister since my parents could not afford to educate me any further due to their humble background.
I managed to secure a casual job in Nairobi and after working for three years I managed to have saved some amount of money that enabled me to join a college and undertake a certificate in Early Childhood Development course for one and a half years.
Last year after college, I secured a teaching position with a School in Uthiru Kabete where I worked for a year then early this year moved to a start up kindergarten known as Joy Nairobi School which is growing very fast and is doing so well so far.
I am currently working in Joy Nairobi School as a kindergarten teacher. The school is growing quite fast and is doing very well this far despite having started in January this year.
I have managed to rent a house and I'm now living on my own. I've also managed to save some money which I hope with the help of Zidisha loan I'll manage to enroll for a diploma course in Early Childhood Development which I'll be undertaking part-time.
This will see my career growth since with the Diploma I'll be able to teach up to Primary level 5 unlike now when I'm only able to teach only in the kindergarten section. With the Diploma I'll also be qualified to handle special needs children which is a major gap in the schools around currently.
I'll be repaying my loan from my salary.
My name is Fridah Kairuthi and I'm 22 years old. I hold a certificate in Early Childhood Education which has enabled me to secure a job at a fast growing kindergarten near Uthiru Corporation.
I however, have managed to save some little cash which with the help of Zidisha loan I hope to immediately enroll for a Diploma course in Early Childhood Education. I feel this Diploma is very crucial since it also covers a unit in "Children with Special needs" and this will come in so hardy in my being able to handle children who have special needs as this is a skill greatly lacking the area generally.
I hope to enroll for this Diploma and undertake part-time so I'll still retain my current job so as to be able to repay the Zidisha loan and also continue saving more for the other semesters.
